This pontoon is made with a Sitka Spruce frame and a mahogany plywood skin. It has 10 water tight compartments. 2800 screws are used together with copper reinforcing along the edges.

Since the builder only had pictures of the plane to work from, and had to draft plans for the pontoon by scaling the pictures ... he was quite anxious to see how it would float and support the approximate 1400 lbs. of airplane.

He tells me that he tested it in a friends pool by having 8 fairly beefy guys sit on it. In fact, he showed me some pictures of the test which I haven't included here.

He was quite happy to discover that it actually had a bit more buoyancy than he needed.
