View of Front Cockpit

The pilot sits out in front of the wings and has nothing to hinder his/her vision.

You can also see quite clearly here the various controls and other pieces of hardware used to construct this plane.

EVERY piece of hardware was handmade by B.D. MacKeracher in his shop to as closely approximate as possible the original materials used.

It's quite amazing to look at this machine and try to understand the painstaking detail and time it must have taken in the drafting of the fuselage, pontoons, and each wing:

And in addition ...

a- first make mechanical drawings for all these pieces from old photographs.

b- find or invent the right materials to produce the actual parts from.

c- make the parts.

d- engineer the whole thing so it fits together properly and works.

Oh yes ... one more thing. Barry isn't a licensed pilot so he can't LEGALLY fly his plane, but he plans to be in the second seat back to help the guy up front quite a bit on the test flight.

You see Barry is a professional Aircraft Mechanic/Restoration Technician ... and has been doing this for more than 45 years. He retired as assistant curator at the National Avation Museum in Ottawa.

Before that, he was a flight engineer in the RCAF on Mark X Lancasters.

(He says you always have to fly with the pilot after you service his plane to show them you have confidence in your work).
