The picture on the left shows the dike being built and the gateway being built into it for the old canal. In the distance is the power dam. This shot was taken before the water levels were raised and on the both sides of the dike, the land was high and dry.

The second photo is in the earlier days of construction when a new structure was being excavated and ships passed by in the old channel.
